FAQs

Who are we?

Hi, I'm Charli, the face behind Grace & The Stars. I'm mum to my beautiful son who was born in March 2020, and live with my husband in the West Midlands.  Grace & The Stars was launched on Etsy in August 2021 as a little escape from the pandemic, and to bring some creative balance back to my life before my return to work at a Graphic Design studio. I also wanted to create something I was proud of, and which would make my family proud, and the idea that hundreds of beautiful orders have been sent out to homes across the country fills my heart with absolute joy. We pride ourselves on creating beautiful wax melts that bring a burst of beautiful fragrance to your home, using a blend of soy wax and high quality fragrance oil.

What are wax melts?

Wax melts are scented pieces of wax that release their fragrance when heated in a wax burner using a tealight, or electric warmer, giving you a beautifully scented room! They're a great alternative to scented candles, allowing you to change your fragrance as often as you'd like at a fraction of the cost.

Safety first! How do I use them?

Although wax melts are not lit directly like a candle, it's still important to follow a few important safety instructions.

  • Always make sure that the wax burner is placed on a stable, heatproof surface away from draughts, curtains/blinds, and loose items that could fall onto the lit burner, and out of the reach of children and pets.
  • Only use a single 4-hour tealight and never leave a lit burner unattended.
  • Do not overfill your wax burner - generally a piece of wax around 15-20g is ideal, depending on size of burner. Our larger wax melts can be broken or cut into smaller pieces if desired (for example our large heart wax melts are usually around 40g each, and so can be broken in half)
  • Do not use your wax burner if there are cracks across the warming dish, as this may cause it to crack.
  • Make sure that wax melts are only used with burners designed for wax - these are generally taller than oil burners; they should be around 10cm tall and have a clearance of around 6.5cm between the tealight flame and the dish. Using an oil burner for wax melts may cause the wax to overheat, causing a potential fire hazard.
  • Finally, make sure that all packaging is removed before adding your wax melt to a burner. Glitter is fine for use in your wax burner, and any residue can be removed with a tissue when changing wax melt and disposed of in your household rubbish.

When your wax melt is melting you may see clear/white steam-like vapour rising from the warming dish - this is totally normal and is a sign of a wax melt with a great scent throw! If for any reason your wax melt begins to smoke it may mean the wax burner is overheating and the flame should be distinguised immediately.

Why use wax melts?

Wax melts are a great way of switching up your home fragrance without commiting to expensive candles. You can change the fragrance each time you use a wax melt, meaning you can tailor your home fragrance to your mood or the season, or even the time of day. We use the same premium fragrance oils found in many expensive candles, so you can have that touch of luxury for less!

They are a cost-effective way of trying new fragrances, whether it be the latest on-trend scent or just something you've been wanting to try for a while. Each wax melt can be used 2-3 times before the fragrance fades (when used with a 4-hour tealight), after which the old wax can be removed and a new wax melt added.

To remove old wax from your wax burner, simply light a new tealight under the old, cooled wax, wait a minute or so  until it starts to loosen and then carefully lift out dispose of the wax in your normal household rubbish. Carefully wipe away any excess wax and pop in a fresh wax melt! Never attack your wax burner with a sharp object in an attempt to remove the wax as this may damage the wax burner (and you!).

Why choose Grace & The Stars?

All Grace & The Stars wax melts are designed to not only have an amazing scent throw, but also to look beautiful before and during melting too. Why not add a little extra beauty into your day, and enjoy a swirling shimmery pool of wax whilst making your home smell amazing!

All of our wax melts are made using a blend of soy wax, which is a sustainable, biodegradable, vegan and eco-friendly. We aim to use as much recyclable packaging as possible, from the glassine bags our wax slabs are packaged in, to the clamshells made from recycled plastic, right down to our postage boxes, tape and water-soluble void fill. We are fully CLP compliant.

We currently use a mixture of bio glitter and cosmetic glitter, with the aim to reduce the use of cosmetic glitter to create a fully biodegradable product.
